Update : USA wins over Spain with a big scare, 118-107

The USA Basketball Team will again face-off with the men from Spain as they battle it out for the world’s top Basketball team title today at 2:15 pm, August 24, 2008 at the Beijing Olympics 2008. This will certainly be one of the most watched finals game in this year’s Olympics, and I know fans will not miss this one. The US has already routed Spain three games before and there is almost no doubt they will come out on top again, after eight years of international competition shame for the world’s best basketball players.

As we speak, Argentina and Lithuania is battling it out for the Bronze Medal match, and I’m not sure which of these teams will get that coveted spot. The US defeated all these teams this year and has claimed their rightful position in the top, but for me, Argentina and Spain should be right there tied in Second Place.

The big question I have though is whether the NBA and Team USA will be able to carry this “training program” to the next Olympics considering the toll that the Games take on the players. NBA franchises should be worried because of the battle scars and the injuries brought about by such a high-level competition, albeit one which does not assure the well-being of their teams. In any case I hope to see professionals battle it out in the next competition.

Team USA has proven once again that the level of Basketbal competition starts below theirs. Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant has nothing to prove anymore. A fitting end before the Closing Ceremony later tonight.
