There is no doubt in my tennis-deprived mind that Spanish Rafael Nadal will make it a triple Grand-Slam tommorow by winning Tennis’ Men’s singles final against Chilean Fernando Gonzales. Rafa already won the Rolland Garros and the Wimbledon this year (both against Swedish star Roger Federer), and he’s assured of taking the No. 1 rank next week from the Federer, a spot the latter held for 4 and 1/2 years. It’s not going to be easy for Nadal though, because Gonzales won the 2004 Gold at Athens for the same event, and after he worked his way up against James Blake of the US in their controversial sem-final match yesterday.
Rafael Nadal plays with strong forehand returns, and he often muscles his way into conquering his competitors. I predict that Rafa will add to his collection the Gold medal from the Olympics, and probably even the US Open later this month.
There’s no stopping a great athlete from achieving the almost impossible. Nadal will serve as a good role model for kids around the world with his discipline and athleticism, and he will remain my idol for years to come.
