Update: US Open 2008 Playoffs and Sudden-Death Winner is Tiger Woods

This particular US Open Golf Tournament 2008 has been my most closely watched Golf Tournament in years, not just because I have more time now than ever, but also because my one and only Golf idol is again playing, even after three rounds of painful knee surgery. That’s right, Tiger Woods is back, and I’m rooting for him to be the winner in the Final Round of 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines, San Diego, California this Sunday, June 15, 2008. The only bad news is that Tiger is playing on a recently operated sore knee, and you can pretty much feel his pain when he grimaces with every tee shot he makes. The unbelievable news is that Tiger Woods leads the competition at 3-under par, followed by Lee Westwood (-2) and Rocco Mediate (-1) (To see the results of the scoreboard, you can go to www.usopen.com).

If you’ve watched the tournament on primetime yesterday, I bet you didn’t have much adrenaline left after you saw how Tiger made his shots, especially the highlights of his third round—the eagle on the 13th, the birdie on the 17th, and the eagle again on the 18th. I would like to make some comparisons here. Watching Tiger Woods yesterday was like witnessing Manny Pacquiao knocks out David Diaz in the third round, or Kobe putting up a 40 point 4th Quarter effort in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to beat the whole Boston Celtics team, or Rafael Nadal smashing Roger Federer in the Wimbledon 2008 for straight sets. (These are all momentous for me but the thing is, all of them are possible and highly probable). At some point while watching Tiger Woods on TV, I rested on the fact that true champions never lose their focus, and I think, more than anything else, that Tiger Woods is the most focused man on the planet. Tiger Woods is the winner of the US Open 2008 for me, no matter the results are today.
