Big Brown aims to be the first Triple Crown winner in almost thirty years on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Belmont Stakes in New York. You can watch the video live on the American Broadcasting Company channel and ESPN. I myself don’t have access to the live online video, so I will just have to watch the news closely and for the video to be posted on Youtube. But if you’ll ask me who my winner prediction is–undoubtedly Big Brown is my answer.

After winning the Kentucky Derby (where Eight Belles got euthanized) and Preakness 2008 in the most dramatic fashion with a come-from-behind victory, Big Brown is set to be the next horse to take the Triple Crown with another win in the Belmont Stakes horse race this Saturday. The only horse able to do this over thirty years ago was Affirmed. Some years before in 2003, Funny Cide had the same opportunity until a slippery track in Belmont extinguished all his chances at the Triple Crown.

The Belmont Stakes 2008 is a 1.50 miles (2.41 km) horse race at Belmont Park, Elmont, New York. It is the third of three “Triple Crown” races which dates back to the early 1900’s, a term which was coined from Baseball. For a list of earlier Triple Crown winners, you can go to this wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_Crown_of_Thoroughbred_Racing .

Here’s a primer / teaser video from the New York Daily News on Youtube.

There is one problem in Big Brown’s bid for the Triple Crown: he has a crack on his front left hoof. Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. dismisses all speculations about the effect of the crack on the horse’s run, and say boldly that his horse will win the race. I hope he’s right. My first eye-opener on the horse race can be a history in the making, with Big Brown winning the Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown along with it. The overall price is a staggering 5 Million Dollars, and the three-year old horse and the trainer deserves it no doubt. The only way you can get a piece of the action is if you bet against the odds right now. Choose the best horse, if you will.
